If you qualify for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) you will require a Needs Assessment which AbilityNet can provide at our Newcastle DSA centre.
Our experienced team will conduct an assessment with you to identify the specialist support you may require.
Phone: 01926 464 095
You will not be personally charged for this assessment. Our fee is paid for by your funding body and the fee charged by this centre for a Needs Assessment is £598.80 (£499.00 + VAT).
Our fee is inclusive of all work required for the duration of your study. If you take a break from studying, start a new course or provide medical evidence to your funding body of an additional disability you may be entitled to a Needs Assessment Review.

"My assessor was extremely thorough in asking me questions on my disabilities and advised me every step of the way with what would help me with my studies as I have two disabilities. I felt that my future work will be of a much better quality due to the help and advice I was given at the assessment." - Hazel R.
"Billy [the assessor] was very warm and friendly and made me feel at ease. Information on the assessment procedure was given in a clear, concise manner. Billy also informed me what would happen at each stage of the DSA procedure and gave contact details for any questions I may have after the assessment date. The assessment was a positive experience and I was amazed to discover the various equipment and software that can support me. I'm glad I chose AbilityNet and couldn't recommend [them] highly enough." - Angela K.
If you are walking from the city centre; from Northumberland Street, turn onto Saville Row and carry on through the crossings until you reach MEA House (following signs to the entrance).
By Rail & Metro
MEA House is located 1 mile from Newcastle Central Station, which is approximately a 20 minute walk or a short taxi journey. We recommend you take the Metro from Central Station, with the nearest stops being Monument or Manors - we are then approximately a 10 minute walk.
We recommend that you plan your journey ahead of time with an online route planning like Google Maps, as there is a one-way system that can be difficult to navigate. Our postcode is NE1 8XS and you can reach us from John Dobson Street (B1307). Heading north, turn right onto St Mary’s Place and then take the next right onto College Street. Head onto Ellison Place where you will see a car park and MEA House.
There is a Pay and Display car park next to MEA House and limited Blue Badge parking in front of the building.
Please head to the reception and inform them that you are there for a DSA Needs Assessment with AbilityNet.
We are located on the 4th floor of MEA House. Exit the lift, turn left, and we are the first door on the left.
