Having asked for help with his dyslexia when he started his course at Bristol University, Jack* received an assessment from an AbilityNet assessor.
As well as getting longer in his exams he is now using mind-mapping software to help get his ideas down in an organised way. There are many different kinds of mind-mapping software available, some of which is free, so Jack tried a couple of different options before picking the one he felt most comfortable with.
Disabled Student's Allowances covered the cost of the assessment and the software, but it was the one to one follow up training that proved the most valuable. The grant paid for someone to work with him over several sessions, helping him to adapt his learning style and make the most of the many features offered by the software.
