A great way to support AbilityNet is to join our network of 300+ volunteers across the UK. Many older people and people with disabilities experience difficulties with their technology - our wonderful volunteers can provide one-to-one IT and technology support remotely and through home visits.
Technology can help people to gain or regain their independence by allowing them to shop or bank online. It can prevent isolation, as the internet can connect people via email to family and friends. It also provides something fun and relaxing to do with online games, TV, radio and other entertainment services. When something goes wrong with a person's technology suddenly all of this is taken away - our volunteers help them to get it back.
The people we meet often need a trustworthy person to offer independent advice and support. Our volunteers use their IT skills to help them in all sorts of ways - from showing how to shop online to setting up an email account, from helping an older person with their general PC usage to assisting with special hardware and software adaptations that would meet a disabled person's specific needs.
