Microsoft releases tools to boost Web accessibility
From earlier on in the week there were reports that Microsoft was expected to release a new set of developer tools for products that improve the Internet's accessibility for people with disabilities. These tools, called UI Automation, can be used royalty-free.
And on Thursday, so they did:

Aiming at Barrier-Free Access for Everyone to Banking Services
There were a couple of announcements about a bank in Switzerland (Credit Suisse ) planning on making all of its services accessible. This includes their branches and ATM's, and also all of their web services.

NVDA - a free and open source screen reader for Windows
After a fairly lengthy introduction, the author talks about Non Visual Desktop Access (NVDA), a free and importantly open source screen reader for Windows.
Elderly people and disabled people have different accessibility requirements
The article is worth reading, just because it considers a group worthy of inclusion in accessibility discussions. Although my thought is that the article also covers the needs of all new users, and indeed users with learning difficulties.
Discapnet Observatory Recognises Achievement in Web Accessibility in Spain
Spanish website accessibility awards in a city that is more famous for its bovine antics. The author makes some good comments about the number of pages tested and the overall standard.
NASA embosses space images for the blind
This isn't anything to do with web accessibility, but I still think it's really cool. NASA today released a book called Touch the Invisible Sky, using 28 embossed images from its Great Observatories, coupled with large-print and braille text.
