WCAG 2.0 finally published
The long awaited WCAG 2.0 has finally been published just in time for Christmas reading. A broad range of materials are available to support developers and policy-makers. We suggest you start off with ‘WCAG 2.0 at a glance’.
British Standard on Web design
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has prepared a draft on Web accessibility for disabled people. It’s available for comment till the 31st of January 2009. If you work in web development or a related area take a look and provide your feedback.
Web standards return on investment
As we have WCAG 2.0 and a new BS draft this week this timely article from Molly Holzschlag is a good reminder of the business benefits of a standards based approach.
Software that adapts to the user
Researchers in the United States have developed a flexible UI that adapts to the user. The ‘Supple’ system customises the user interface for each individual user based on a brief skills test.
Internet Explorer 8 accessibility features
Internet Explorer 8 will have a range of accessibility features that will particularly be of benefit to low mobility and low vision users. Adaptive Zoom scales elements of a Web page before the page is laid out thus removing horizontal scrolling. Caret Browsing enables keyboard only users to navigate a Web page using a moveable cursor.
Older people and technology workshop
Helping older people come to grips with modern information technology is the theme of a one day workshop Digital Unite is running on the January 30th, 2009. Worth taking the time to attend if you work in or are interested in this area.
