Changing your colours in KDE 4

Click on the ‘K’ icon on the menu tab, or press ‘Alt’ + ‘F1’ to open ‘KickOff’, Fig 1.

Click to select or use the arrow keys to go to ‘Computer’ + ‘System Settings’, then press ‘Enter’.

Click to select or press ‘Tab’ to enter the main window, and use the arrow keys to navigate to ‘Appearance’, then press ‘Enter’, Fig 3.

Click on ‘Colors’ or press ‘Tab’ until the left hand window has the focus highlight, then use the ‘down’ arrow to select, Fig 4.

Click on the chosen colour scheme or press ‘Tab’ until the Color Scheme window has the focus highlight, then use the arrow keys to make a selection. If you require more schemes, click on the ‘Get New Scheme’ button or press ‘Alt’ + ‘N’.

Note this option is not keyboard friendly and the Install option can only be accessed via a mouse.

If you wish to modify the colour settings further, click on the ‘Colors’ tab or press ‘Alt’ + ‘L’.

Click on the coloured box to the right of any of the window components listed below ‘Common Colors’ to open the ‘Color Picker’ or press ‘Tab’ until the section has the focus highlight, then use the arrows keys to select the relevant part, followed by the right arrow, then ‘Enter’ to open the ‘Color Picker’, Fig 5.

If you wish to save a new scheme, return to the ‘Scheme’ tab by clicking on it or pressing ‘Alt’ + ‘S’ then click on the ‘Save’ button or press ‘Alt’ + ‘S’, Fig 6.

When you have chosen or created the scheme to suit your needs, click ‘Apply’ or press ‘Alt’ + ‘A’, then click the ‘Overview’ button or press ‘Esc’ to return to the ‘System Settings’ window. Click the ‘Close’ cross or press ‘Alt’ + ‘F4’ to return to the KDE desktop.
