Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What will happen on the day?

  • A: When you arrive at the centre you will meet your assessor who will work with you in our dedicated and private assessment room. They will ask about your disability, your previous educational experience and qualifications, employment history and the course you intend to study. You will be able to try out a range of suitable IT equipment and software and discuss any support and travel needs you may have and the solutions available. Once these are agreed they will be summarised at the end of the meeting for you.
  • Q: How long will the assessment take?

  • A: The DSA assessment could last up to 2 hours and in particular cases may last longer, this will have been discussed with you prior to the assessment taking place.
  • Q: What do I need to bring with me?

  • A: Evidence of your disability and the letter from your funding body confirming that you are eligable for DSA.
  • Q: What will happen following the assessment?

  • A: After the assessment the assessor will write a report based on the discussion and the agreed solutions, which will be available for you to comment on within 10 working days. Once the report is agreed the final report will be sent you, your funding body and if you have requested it the disability officer at the place you will be studying.
