Our Assessment Services.
This service is for people with disabilities or difficulties who wish to use a computer at home for their own personal use.
Why an assessment
If you find using a computer uncomfortable or difficult in any way, there is probably a solution AbilityNet can find to help you. And if you’ve never used a computer before, because you think you’ll have problems reading the screen, or using the mouse or keyboard, we can introduce you to a whole range of specialist features and adaptations (many of which cost very little) to get round these problems – whatever your age or disability.
Types of Assessment
All our assessments start with an in-depth telephone consultation with a fully trained assessor. This may then lead to a one-to-one assessment or a remote assessment.
If we feel a One-to-one Assessment is required then you will be referred to the AbilityNet centre for your area. We usually offer one and two hour appointments depending on how many solutions need to be trialed. This will be discussed during an initial telephone consultation.
AbilityNet also offer a new Remote Assessment service. If you have Internet access an AbilityNet assessor can ask to connect to your computer. They can then make adjustments to allow you to try out some of the free tools available to make your computer easier to use. We will discuss if this is a suitable form of assessment for you during the initial telephone consultation.
Should it be impossible for you to come to an AbilityNet centre, we can arrange home visits. These are arranged on individual merit and there is a waiting list, and therefore a time lag, for this service.
