Adobe Flash is one of the most widely available technologies used on the web - it does however have a reputation for being an inaccessible technology creating unique accessibility problems for a wide range of disabled web users
Course aim
This course will explain how to make Flash accessible and how to test it effectively.
Duration
The course is a half day - it runs from 2pm to 5pm
Audience
This course is for anyone who is familiar with creating Flash and has a basic knowledge of Actionscript or is willing to learn.
Presenter
Jon Gooday will be taking the lead explaining the issues, providing practical examples, giving you an insight into how to make Flash accessible.
Course content
Topics covered in this course include:
- Flash accessibility guidelines – WCAG 2.0 and Adobe
- Demonstration of Flash accessibility issues with a range of adaptive technology
- Flash accessibility techniques including a case study of retrofitting an inaccessible Flash movie
- How to test your Flash movies for accessibility including testing with a screen reader
- Adding captions to a Flash video player
- Microsoft Silverlight and Flash compared
You will also receive a course pack containing materials covered during the day including a Flash accessibility checklist.
